A. Pack'n Save Supermarket New North Road,
B. This is a large complex comprising of restaurants, souvenir shops, several large vegetable markets, seafood market, and a bottle shop, located at 955 New North Rd. Next to the complex there is Lim's Asian supermarket at number 949, which is one of the cheapest places to shop for vegetables. Lim's also has a butcher and a seafood market, and a few small food outlets. The roasted duck is excellent. Distance: 2 km.

Bread, Cheese, Meat & Sausages
The quality of New Zealand bread, cheese and especially sausages is pretty poor. For bread try Voila at 573 Sandringham Rd, Sandringham,Tel. 846 8393. Distance: 3 km. They have good baguettes and some other French bread. Wild Wheat at 811 Mt Eden Rd, Tel: 09 631 7012, has excellent European bread including sour dough breads. There is a butcher very close by: Khan's Halal Meats 272 Blockhouse Bay Rd, Avondale. Distance: 1 km, but it's not very clean. Khan's main shop is at 543 Sandringham Rd, Auckland, NZ Tel. 09 8153466. Distance: 2.5 km. There's another Halal meat shop across the road from Khan's which I like better. The Swiss Bakery, Rosebank Rd has good bread and excellent pastries. Feta cheese, olives, pita bread, and other middle eastern food check out Khyber Food & Spices Ltd. 528 Sandringham Rd Sandringham. Tel. 815 2307. Distance: 3 km. They also have a branch on Stoddard Rd.

Market
The Wesley Community Centre holds a vegetable market every Tuesday and Friday from 7am to 1pm on Sandringham Extension, Owairaka. Distance: 2.5 km.

Restaurants
There is a "Chinese European" food outlet just around the corner on New Windsor Street. These Chinese-European restaurats are a real institution in New Zealand where you will not find a single European or Chinese dish on their menu. They serve bland pseudo-Chinese food, fish and chips, burgers, sausages, and 'pies' – a slimy meat mash wrapped in a pastry.
The best restaurant in walking distance is the Malaysian Noodle and Rice House, 57 Wolverton St. ($7-10 per meal). Inexpensive authentic Chinese restaurants are found all along New North Rd, especially in Mt Albert vilLocation. Distance: 3 km. If you dine in a group of four or more, check out Yuan BBQ Steamboat Restaurant at 955 New North Rd. Bookings (Tel. 849 5566) are essential. Another good and inexpensive Chinese place for Dim Sum (11-14:30) is the small and inexpensive Hong Kong Delight Chinese Seafood Restaurant at 928 Dominion Rd, Mt Roskill, Tel 620 8928. Excellent Dim Sum is served at the much more expensive Grand Harbour, 18-28 Custom St West, Auckland Central, Tel: 09 357 6889.
There is a Thai restaurant on New North Rd in Mt Albert vilLocation but so far we haven't found a single Thai restaurant in Auckland serving authentic Thai food. The same is unfortunately also true for Italian and Mediterranian Food.

The gas hob runs on a LPG bottle that needs to bew refilled from time to time. The next LPG filling station is the BP Connect Junction, Portage Road & Clark Street, Auckland, New Lynn.
